KELA Legacy Foundation LBG was founded by the children of the late Dr. Emmanuel Komla Adinkra to carry forward his life’s work: caring for people regardless of their means, and opening doors to learning.

Dr. Emmanuel Komla Adinkra
Dr. Adinkra was born on 3 April 1930 in Sokode Bagble, in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region, to Ebenezer and Grace Adinkra, both farmers. After schooling at Etoe Awudome, he passed the Common Entrance examination with distinction in 1951 and won a Cocoa Marketing Board scholarship to Achimota School.
A second scholarship took him to the University of Manchester to study medicine. He completed his housemanship in Stafford in 1965 and became the first medical doctor from Sokode. After practising in England, he returned to Ghana to work at the Korle-Bu Polyclinic in Accra, then moved to Kumasi, where he founded City Hospital Limited at Amakom and served as its CEO.
For decades he cared for thousands of patients, putting low-income families first, and he visited the hospital daily well into old age. He was a devoted member of the EP Church, Amakom, and is remembered as kind, generous, humorous and humble. He was called to glory on 11 March 2020, survived by his wife, Mrs. Peggy Adinkra, their children and grandchildren.
